Dharmic Sabha celebrates Holi Utsav on Sunday

The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s annual Holi Utsav will be celebrated on Sunday on the lawns of its Sanskritik Kendra, at Prashad Nagar, Georgetown.

In a statement, the Dharmic Sabha said a special programme of music, songs and dances have been organised for the event to stimulate a lively atmosphere for the celebrations. Dharmendra Gobin will direct the music and singers Krishna Mandata, Sookranie Boodhoo, Rekha Singh and Suchitra Rampersaud are to perform. There will also be chowtal singing, featuring several goles. Meanwhile, Dr. Vindhya Persaud will direct the dances, which will feature performances from the Dharmic Nritya Sangh.

The programme will commence at 4pm at the Sanskritik Kendra, at 392-393 Ganges Street, Prashad Nagar.

The Dharmic Sabha appealed for all attendees to dress decently for Holi Utsav and to play Phagwah with powder, perfume, abrack and the squirting of abeer. It said Holi is a rich cultural festival and the Sabha, in an appeal to avoid any “un-Hindu action,” added that it hopes that those who will participate do not walk with buckets of water and drench anyone wantonly. It warned that anyone who does so would not be allowed into the compound.

Powder, perfume and abrack will be freely distributed.

The festival will be preceded by Satsangh on Saturday, at the Shri Krishna Mandir, in Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, at 7pm. Afterward, the procession would be integrated with crashing of the jhaal and chowtal singing and move its way to the Camptown Ground, Campbellville, for the burning of Holika at 8pm.

On Sunday morning, Satsangh at the Rama Krishna Mandir, Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown, would be dedicated to Holi, beginning at 8am.
