Riverview man clinging to life after stabbed in neck

A man was last night in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being stabbed in the neck at Riverview, Ruimveldt.

Friends of Rafeek known as ‘Shabba’, 21, who rushed the badly injured man to the hospital blasted police at the Ruimveldt Police Station who they said refused to help and even put ‘Shabba’, who was barely able to move, out of the compound.

The police, the friends also said, refused to listen to them and did not go to arrest the assailant who was identified. “Before dem police help he, they just holler pon we,” one said.

Shabba’s girlfriend, Michelle Thomas said that they were at a bar at Riverview last evening and Shabba indicated to her that the assailant had told him that he (Shabba) was going “to pay for all that happen”. She said that the incident occurred later at just about 9:30 pm. “The man just walk up and stab he,” she said noting that the knife was several inches long and was sharpened at both sides.

She said they took Shabba to the police station, located close-by, but the police said that they had no driver and “leh he dead right here”.

She said the police even put them and the injured man out of the compound and they had to catch a taxi to take him to the hospital. At the hospital last night, Thomas said they were told Shabba was being placed on a life support machine.
