Bandits grab $3.7M from Grove family

Gun-toting bandits last night robbed a Grove, East Bank Demerara family of $3.7 million and a quantity of jewellery before escaping.

Police said that the incident is being investigated. The robbery occurred at about 7:20 last night at Section ‘Y’, Grove.

Surajdai Jaipaul was attacked and robbed by four men, two of whom were armed with firearms, the police said in a statement.

“Investigations revealed that the perpetrators entered the home through an open door and held up the victim, her daughter and granddaughter who were all watching television. One of the men stood guard over the victims while the others ransacked the house took away a safe containing $3.7 million, along with two cell phones and a quantity of jewellery…,” the statement said.
