Bandits grab $3M from Grove family

A Grove Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara, family was on Sunday night robbed of over $3 million in jewellery and cash by three masked men armed with handguns.

According to a police press release, businessman Naipaul Maikoo, his wife and son were attacked and robbed around 9.30 pm.

The release said investigations revealed that Maikoo and his family were about to enter their premises when they were confronted by the armed men who took them inside the building and began assaulting them about their bodies with the firearms while demanding cash and jewellery.

“The men then ransacked the home and took away $1.5 million, US$3,000, and jewellery to the value of $1.2 million and escaped,” the release said. Investigations are continuing.
