With reference to an article captioned ‘Ex-army officer fearful after abduction’ which was published in the Thursday, March 10 editor of the Stabroek News, it was stated that Walter Kendall is a student of the Kuru-Kuru Cooperative College on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway. The article further quoted him as saying, “I am a UNDP sponsored student at the Kuru-Kuru College…” and continues by mentioning that Walter Kendall has participated in the Youth Entrepreneurial Skills Training programme (YEST) sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sport. He was also reported as saying that he has a few more months to study at the institution, following which he hoped to graduate with a diploma in the field of mechanics.
Please be advised that Walter Kendall is not a student of the Kuru-Kuru Training Centre and is not a part of the Youth Entrepreneurial Skills Training Programme which is conducted through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
However, for your information, Walter Kendall would have enrolled for the YEST programme and voluntarily withdrew himself on December 26, 2011 by ‘walking off’ the centre. For his actions and indiscipline he was subsequently dismissed from the programme on February 1, 2011.
With a bit of research or verification of the information provided by Walker Kendall, your reporter would have able to avoid the embarrassing situation the article has caused the institution and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
