This letter is not about disparaging any of the presidential hopefuls but about supporting Harry Hergash’s contention that Mr Ralph Ramkarran offers the best chance for the PPP to win the presidency (‘Mr Ramkarran offers the best chance for the PPP to win the presidency’ SN, March 14).
Mr Ramkarran’s credentials as an attorney, Speaker of the National Assembly, and a responsible and mature leader of the PPP are well recognized beyond the walls of Robb Street and the shores of Guyana.
The fact that Mr Hergash argued that Mr Ramkarran because of age is likely to be a one-term president is good not only for democracy, but for the process of change that is an integral part of development.
Mr Ramkarran possesses the unique quality of knowledge to deal with racial insecurity in this highly polarized society, notwithstanding the fact that there is an urgent need to overhaul the present constitution as a prerequisite for social harmony.
