Dear Editor,
Last month I wrote a letter in which I talked about Ralph Ramkarran and Moses Nagamootoo and their prospects in the presidential selection process in the PPP and in your blog section the same day, Mr Ramkarran wrote a blog accusing me of “drinking soup” and insinuating that I was looking out for some kind of hand-out from this government.
Editor, if I was a political soup-drinker, I’d be far advanced in the PPP hierarchy, and as I answered him, I have never done any soup-drinking because it’s against my religion and steadfast view of the political situation in this country.
But the die is cast now, and Mr Ramotar is the PPP’s candidate and Mr Ramkarran has already began to ‘drink soup’ in a real hurry; he was in such a hurry that he gave up his quest for the presidency without even a fight or even an abstention from the “unanimous” selection.
I wonder if Mr Ramkarran will do this for the rest of his political life, or stand up for the things he elaborated in his quest to be president of Guyana? My guess is that, as I said before, he does not have the political courage to fight for the things he thinks are good for our country and will disappear into the fog of political nothingness.
Editor, the saga of Mr Ramkarran’s long and futile quest to lead the PPP into the next election is one which we can look at as an education for all of us who are interested in politics; the lesson to be learnt is that if political courage is lacking in an individual who aspires to lead, then that person will fail, always. In Mr Ramkarran’s case, this has happened so amazingly fast that it seems as if he was wrong in writing his blog attacking me before looking in a mirror.
