T&T’s Jones ready to rumble after barren spell

STOKE-ON-TRENT, England, CMC – Stoke City’s Trinidadian marksman Kenwyne Jones says he has put a difficult last few weeks behind him and is ready to press on with the job of scoring goals to ensure the club continues flourishing in the English Premiership.

Jones ended a barren spell last Saturday, scoring once and setting up another as Stoke beat Everton 2-0 on the New Year’s Day card to launch 2011 in style.

For the 26-year-old, it was his first goal in nearly two months at the West Midlands outfit, and he said the drought had been due to personal problems.

“I guess problems are a part of life and sometimes they unfortunately spill over into your job which in my case is playing football,” Jones explained.

“When it comes to football, you do want to take your mind off other things and just go out there and play how you know you can but at times it is difficult when things are happening behind the scenes.

“Thankfully [Saturday] I came out fully focussed and desperate to help the team get the year off to a good start. I was very happy with my goal and maybe we had a little luck for the second goal but I think we deserved that.”
