Court rules that DCB elections can go ahead

Chief Justice Ian Chang on Friday ruled that the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) can go ahead with its annual general meeting and election of office bearers for the 2011/12 term.

Chang had previously granted an order temporarily prohibiting the staging of the DCB’s AGM until the hearing and determination of an originating summons.

The AGM and Elections of the DCB were scheduled for earlier this month but vice-president of the DCB, Anand Sanasie, had filed an Ex-Parte application by way of affidavit on December 23, to stay the holding of the AGM.

Yesterday secretary of the DCB, Rajendra Singh, sent out a notice informing media houses of the staging of an Executive Committee Meeting which is scheduled to be held tomorrow.

“Pursuant to an order of the High Court made by the Honourable Chief Justice, Ian Chang, on January 14th 2011, this Executive Committee Meeting is being summoned to be held on Monday, January 17th 2011 in the Boardroom of the Guyana Cricket Board, Regent Rd, Bourda, Georgetown at 5.00pm,” stated the release from the DCB secretary.

The meeting is being held to determine a date for the election of office bearers for the 2011/12 period which must be held before January 24.

Apart from the decision of when to hold the election of office bearers for the new term,  the meeting will also discuss the minutes of the previous executive committee meeting held last May.
