Akshay Homraj slams unbeaten 104, Shabir Khan takes 6 for 10

Seventeen-year-old Akshay Homraj became the second centurion of this year’s New Building Society Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition in Berbice when he slammed 104 not out for No.70 Young Star.

His knock which included 12 fours together with 54 from Thameshwar Ramoutar and 52 from Naeem Yacoob, enabled Young Star to amass 266 for 4 in 30 overs in their rain-affected match against No. 70 Wrong Turn. Off-spinners Ramoutar and Yacoob came back with the ball and took 3 wickets each to rout Wrong Turn for 69.

After No. 70 Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) were restricted to 156 by No. 69 Vikings with off-spinner Deon Bramdit taking 5 for 24. Leg-spinner Shabir Khan with 6 for 10 helped to help bowl out the Vikings for 70 in their reply. His performance is the best by a bowler so far in the competition.

Virvasha Ramdharry 60 (9×4) and Tolaram Persaud’s 52 (4×4, 3×6) helped No. 68 Turn team to score 248 for 8 in 35 overs against No. 69 Red Rose.
In reply Red Rose, despite a fighting 63 (4×4, 3×6) from Trishan Narinedat, could only reply with 116 all out with Turn Team’s leg-spinner Viendra Gooniah and off-spinner Hemnarine Ramsaroop picking up 4 wickets each.

Ryan Mohamed hit 70 (10×4, 1×6) to steer West Canje to 214 for 8 in 35 overs against Overwinning Bible Church. His teammates left arm spinner Gregory Crandon with 5 for 14 and leg-spinner Edoo with 3 for 8 combined to skittle out the church team for 75.

Then left arm spinner Ramesh Joseph took 4 for 9 to help No. 64 Fighting Marines bowl out No. 64 Young Warriors for a paltry 69. Unbeaten scores from Rajesh Adhar (39) and Devendra Budhoo (24) then steered the Marines to a 10-wicket win in just six overs.
