Psychiatric observation ordered for man on brother’s request

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday ordered a psychiatric observation for 30-year-old Mark Bishop following a request by his brother Paul Bishop.

A sobbing Paul Bishop asked the magistrate to have his brother committed to a psychiatric institution, saying that his brother is of unsound mind and his mental condition is taking a toll on him and their family.

He said that they are biological brothers but live with foster parents.

He went on to say that his brother has been before the court previously on a charge of threatening behaviour and had been committed to the psychiatric institution but a few weeks after  being released he suffered a relapse.

The magistrate said that she would have him checked by a doctor and then she would make a decision on whether he should be committed or not based on the results of the psychiatric evaluation.
