Kaneville couple charged with assaulting each other after lights row

A husband and wife, who have been together for 15 years, were yesterday arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on charges that they assaulted each other.

George Anderson, 44, and Syon Bristol, 34, both denied charges that they assaulted each other at their Kaneville home, when they appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.

Anderson, a mason/contract carpenter and Bristol, a vendor, who share a six-year-old son, were both released on $10,000 bail and advised to seeking counselling.

Prosecutor Burgett Grant stated that on August 19, the two had an argument over the lights in the house.

Grant said Bristol attempted to put the lights on, Anderson prevented her from doing so, and a scuffle ensued between the two. Bristol, she said, picked up a cutlass during the argument and hit Anderson about his body.

Grant also stated that Anderson then reported the matter to the Grove Police Station, and Bristol was subsequently arrested by police and charged.

When given the opportunity to speak, Bristol said that after she put on the lights in the house, Anderson said to her that the lights must be off and had to stay off. “He cuff me to me ribs and he had on a brief and I pulled it and it tear. I did not pick up any cutlass and lash he,” said Bristol.

As a result, although Bristol offered a guilty plea, Magistrate Octive-Hamilton entered a plea of not guilty for her.

Because of the fact that the two live together at their 973 Kanveille, Grove home and share a son, the magistrate advised that they seek counselling from the Human Services Ministry.

The case was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for October 12.
