I refer to a letter in your publication of August 20, 2012 captioned ‘No explanation from CANU’ and wish to categorically state the following:
At no time did the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) request the detention of any container being shipped by Ms Jeannine Gittens
When CANU desires to conduct a search operation on any container the Guyana Revenue Authority is informed and the necessary procedure engaged.
At no time did Ms Gittens make contact with the officer/officers of CANU to ascertain/query the alleged detention of her containers.
CANU was only made aware of Ms Gittens’ alleged plight when the letter was published
I wish to suggest that in future Ms Gittens acquire accurately, the facts before penning letters to be printed publicly which are, erroneous, libellous and would serve to portray a negative image of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU).
