GPL will not be able to cope with the Christmas load in Bartica

Dear Editor,

This Christmas holiday in Bartica GPL will not be able to take the load. We often get blackouts at the peak time of 6pm to 8pm.

Something usually goes wrong at the power station; we all know that those generator sets cannot take the load. They are used generator sets which came from somewhere else, all worn out; they usually overhaul them and send them to Bartica. Barticians will have to brace themselves for the worst this Christmas as far as blackouts are concerned. GPL should start planning from now to arrange for a portable caterpillar generator set such as the ones at Lenora.

As for Guyana Water Inc in Bartica, every home has a black tank to catch rainwater when rain falls. If we depend on GWI for water we will have to go to the rivers – thank god for the Mazaruni and Cuyuni Essequibo Rivers, which allow some of us to take a bath and wash clothes.

GWI for the longest while has not been serving Bartica with water, and they always have an excuse to give Barticians.

I do hope this letter catches the Minister‘s eye; I am sure he does not know what‘s going on up here.

As for the police in Bartica, this batch is doing a fairly good job so far. They should keep it up and not send spoiled officers.

Yours faithfully,
Winston B Miller Sr
