Buckets should not be used to draw water at the Mahdia spring

Dear Editor,

As the drought is on in Mahdia, people who use the spring should not dip their buckets down into it, because by so doing, the thick sediment at the bottom swirls to the top and discolours the  water.

This is an inconvenience to others who frequent the spring early to have clear water for drinking after it has been boiled thoroughly.

Bowls and other small containers could be used to fill buckets. Those who stoop at the edge of the spring and use bowls to splash their bodies, should fill buckets, stand on the boards provided and bathe there.

Paper, empty bottles and discarded garments should not be disposed of around the spring, but elsewhere in order to maintain sanitary conditions. I close by soliciting co-operation in the interest of the general public.

Yours faithfully,
George Carrington
