England rest trio for final ODI

LONDON, England,  CMC – England’s selectors have rested the bowling trio of Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann for the third and final One-Day International against West Indies tomorrow at Headingley.

The move comes following England’s convincing eight-wicket win in the second match at the Oval here Tuesday which gave them an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Fast bowler Stuart Meaker and off-spinner James Tredwell have been called up while pacer Jade Dernbach returns to the squad after missing the second ODI on compassionate grounds.

“The fact that we have already won the NatWest Series means we are able to take the opportunity to rest three players ahead of next week’s series against Australia and take a closer look at players who are likely to feature in our limited-overs planning going forward,” chief selector Geoff Miller said.

Young fast bowler Chris Woakes, who replaced Dernbach in the squad for the second ODI, has been retained in the 14-man squad.

England won the opening ODI at the Rose Bowl on Saturday by 114 runs.

SQUAD – Alastair Cook (captain), James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Craig Kieswetter, Stuart Meaker, Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, James Tredwell, Jonathan Trott, Chris Woakes.
