GTTA/NSC to stage vigil for Henry Greene

The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), in conjunction with the National Sports Commission (NSC) will this evening host a vigil for the late president of the GTTA, Henry Greene at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue from 7pm.

This is according to a press release from the GTTA.

The release said that the vigil has been arranged even though condolences continue to pour in for the former Commissioner of Police, who died Friday last after his vehicle was involved in a three-vehicle accident on the West Coast of Demerara.

Green was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Hospital from what was later determined to be a fractured spine and other causes.

Meanwhile, International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Level One Course Instructor, Richard McAfee, who conducted a coaching course in Guyana, last year has expressed condolences to the GTTA on Greene’s passing.

“This is very sad news indeed! I greatly enjoyed meeting Henry while I was in Guyana conducting the Level 1 Course.  His hospitality to both myself and all the coaches participating in the ITTF Course was amazing. He was indeed a very impressive man and certainly loved the sport. I know he will greatly be missed by everyone who knew him,” the USATT National Coaching Advisory Committee Chairman said in an email.

Greene was at the helm of the GTTA executive since 2010 when he was elected president at the GTTA’s Annual General Meeting. He replaced Attorney General Anil Nandlall.

The vigil will feature a demonstration of table tennis matches, signing of the Book of Condolence, tributes, soft music, and candle lighting, with persons allowed to bring candles, the release stated.
