Man charged with possession of a cutlass granted bail

Akeem Browne was released on $20,000 bail after being charged for having a cutlass in his possession, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

It was alleged that on March 26 at Camp Street, Browne, 25, had in his possession an offensive weapon, that is to say a cutlass, without legal authority or a reasonable explanation.

Browne who was unrepresented by counsel pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.

Facts about what had transpired on the day in question were not related to the court. The prosecutor, Police sergeant Alexis David-Hossanah did not object to bail.

He was granted $20,000 bail.
The matter continues on May 10.
