After three weeks, the new koker door at the Cummings canal is operational.
The sluice door had broken on March 13th, resulting in the flooding of Kingston and its environs. A temporary barrier was initially installed as an emergency precaution to defend against high tides, but Public Works Minister Robeson Benn told Stabroek News that a decision was then made to make a completely new door.
Checks to the door yesterday by this newspaper revealed that the logs and the dummy door that were installed to make a semi-permanent stop were both removed.
