All established private schools are registered with the NIS

Dear Editor,

Reference is made to the letter, ‘Are private schools providing real benefits to society?’ which appeared in Stabroek News, dated November 29.

In the letter, one of the questions asked by the writer was whether NIS contributions are in order for these schools.

Please be advised that all of the established private schools are registered with the National Insurance Scheme and paying contributions for staff. There are instances however where these school do not pay their contributions in a timely manner.

In such cases, NIS would usually take the necessary steps to ensure that those employers comply with the regulations of the scheme.

Members of the public who wish to furnish NIS with information regarding delinquent employers can do so by writing us an anonymous letter or by calling the compliance section on 226-5809 or the local office in their area.

Please note that the disclosure of your identity is not compulsory; however, all information will be handled with strict confidentiality.

Yours faithfully,
