In the final, Achievers, though not as dominant as they were in previous matches, still managed to put the East Coast team under pressure thanks to some special effort from Austin who was later adjudged the most valuable player.

Coach of the Achievers team Devendra Samaroo said in an invited comment:”We are the number one volleyball team in the country and despite not playing at our best we managed to win convincingly.”

Samaroo added that his team will continue to improve and also work hard on their discipline.

MVP Austin said:”It was a good match. However, we were lacklustre in our approach. Some of the players will need to pull their socks up and focus harder in the future but I’m pleased with the result and my team’s performance throughout the tournament.”

Lusignan’s captain Afraz Samad commenting on his team’s performance said:”Our team was a combination of Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA), Lusignan and Park Rangers but we gelled together well. Our tournament run was good but we didn’t finish as we wanted.”

President of the Guyana Volleyball Association Lenoard Shuffler briefly stated that… “The tournament was good and it was a great way to get the Demerara Volleyball Association involved.

It also allowed the third division teams to represent and showcase their talent.”

Shuffler added that he was pleased with the support the tournament received and that the Guyana Volleyball Federation’s theme is ‘Development Through Activity’ which he hopes will be practiced by the teams and officials in the future.
