Turfites gearing up for pre-Independence treat

Turfites are in for pre Independence treat when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) stages an exciting seven-race meet at its Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, race track on May 19.

The crème de le crème of the country’s top horses are expected to be on show with the feature event being the D1 and Lower over a distance of seven furlongs.

The winning horse‘s owner will pocket $500,000, while the runner-up will take home half that amount. The third and fourth place finishers will receive $125,000 and $63,000 respectively.

Several other events are planned for a pulsating day of racing starting with the G and Lower Class over a distance of seven furlongs. The top finisher will receive $300,000, while the second place finisher will collect half that amount. The third and fourth place finishers will receive $75,000 and $38,000 respectively.

$150,000 will go to the winner of the J2 and Lower over a distance of six furlongs with the second place finisher receiving $75,000. The third and fourth place finishers will each receive $38,000 and $19, 000 respectively.

Other races include the K & Lower, F & Lower, Three-year-old and I & Lower.

Patrons have been assured the day will be action packed especially since jockeys and their horses will be competing under improved conditions.

The organizers wishes to remind horse owners that the event is being conducted under the auspices of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) and all of the rules of the local governing body will be in effect.

Horse owners are asked to have their entrants examined by the vet by 11:00 hours on race day.
