Barbados take the upper hand, Windwards recover

BASSETERRE, St Kitts, CMC- A stroke-filled 96 from Johnathan Drakes gave Barbados the edge over Leeward Islands on day one of their second round match in the Regional Under 19 tournament at Conaree Tuesday.

Drakes struck 13 fours and a six to give Barbados the upper hand after they lost opener Dario Boyce after just seven balls.

His 96 runs came from 151 balls while he lasted 203 minutes at the crease.

Jofra Archer was also impressive down the order, hitting an aggressive 63.

Barbados piled up 254 all out in the first innings.

The Leewards’ best bowler was Alzari Joseph who took 4-59.

The Leewards were reeling on 25 for two overnight, still trailing by 229 runs.

At Warner Park, Taryck Gabriel struck a patient 81 to help Windwards recover against Jamaica.

Windwards, who won the toss and elected to bat, stumbled to 13 for two, before Gabriel’s 160-minute stay at the crease provided stability.

Gabriel faced 124 balls in his knock which included 11 fours and two sixes.

Ray Jordan provided a quick 24 from 11 balls at the end but the Windwards still looked well short at 185 all out.

Leading the destruction for Jamaica was Marquino Mindley, who took 5-42 while Shane Manning had 3-48.

An unbeaten 50 from Tristan Coleman help Jamaica recover from 23 for two to 88 for two although they still trail by 97 runs.

And at EGSC Molineaux, Guyana are on 40 for one, trailing Trinidad and Tobago by 154 runs.

Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai grabbed six for 42 while Vishal Narayan took 2-23 as Guyana bowled out Trinidad and Tobago for 194 on the opening day.

Camilo Carimbocas top scored with 45 , Brian Christmas and Vikash Mohan each scored 33 runs while  while Andy Gobin chipped in with 32.
