Northern Rangers boot Black Pearl

Northern Rangers beat Black Pearl 4-1 on penalty kicks to book their quarterfinal passage after normal time ended 2-2 when the Georgetown Football Association/Banks Cup continued yesterday at the Tucville Community ground.

Following a nil-all score line at the end of the first half, Carlton Jerrick would open the scoring in the 58th minute for Black Pearl with a strike to the right side of the net, from within the right side of the penalty area.

Sherwin Vincent would level the score line for Northern Rangers as he found the back of the net in the 69th minute with a strike into the roof of the goal from inside the right side of the penalty area.

Unable to be separated during the remaining minutes of the second period, Northern Rangers would take the lead for the first time in the encounter as Vincent completed his double in the 96th minute with a finish to the bottom of the net from inside the six yard area, after latching onto a right-sided cross.

However Black Pearl would find the timely equalizer in the 118th minute as Prince Johnson etched his name on the scorer’s sheet with a penalty kicks conversion.

Awarded the spot kick following a rash challenge inside the penalty area, Johnson would score his intended left-sided strike from the penalty spot after the Northern Rangers custodian unluckily deflected his attempt into the right side of the net.

Required to utilize penalty kicks to decide the winner, Northern Rangers would display their efficiency from the 11-yard mark as they netted their first four penalties to win. Black Pearl on the other hand would miss three of their four attempts to crash out of the event. (Duncan Saul)
