Waramadong to make K&S debut

Tournament heavyweight, Waramadong will make their long anticipated debut in the Chico/Kashif & Shanghai Elite Next Generation Football Tournament today at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.

The confident Region Seven outfit which arrived in the capital on Wednesday will tackle North Georgetown in the feature fixture of the scheduled double header.

A win will earn the number two seeded team a quarterfinal berth but Coach, Louis Isaacs told this publication that his charges’ sights are set on lifting the championship trophy of the inaugural tournament.

Before even thinking about the final, the Region Seven ball weavers must get past North Georgetown who defeated Patentia Secondary 4-3 on penalties on December 11 at the same venue.

For the lesser celebrated North Georgetown team, a victory will mean a lot more and will go down as the upset of the tournament.

The Waramadong/North Georgetown fixture will kick off at 18:00hrs. Two hours prior, Dolphin Secondary will lock horns with Charlestown.

Fans are reminded that up to the semifinals, all school-aged children will be admitted free to each game.

The winner of the tournament will pocket a record $1.2M in cash of which 75% will go towards a project identified by the school.

They will also receive a trophy and 25 replicas along with the prize money.

The institutions placing second, third and fourth will each receive prize monies amounting to $750,000, $500,000 and $250,000, in cash respectively.

The second and third place teams will receive trophies and 25 silver and bronze medals respectively, while the fourth place team will receive a trophy.

As customary, the grand finale will be staged on January 1 at the Providence National Stadium.
