Three for court over Tuschen cattle theft

Three persons are in police custody and are set to appear in court today after they were yesterday caught with ten head of cattle in Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that a member of the Tuschen Policing Group received a report that someone had stolen animals from a location in Greenwich Park and had taken them to Tuschen.

Based on information that was later received this newspaper was told, about ten head of cattle were later found tied up in a bushy area aback of the Tuschen New Scheme. The animals had apparently been sold already.

When members of the policing group arrived at the location, the persons who claimed ownership later offered them an inducement to not pursue the case. However this was declined and the members of the community group had to call in the police to arrest the trio.

Stabroek News was told that the theft of farm animals in the area is a regular occurrence. The police and members of the community group were applauded by residents yesterday for not only arresting the animal thieves but for sending a message to those engaged in this practice that they will be caught and charged.

Meanwhile, this newspaper understands that armed robberies are on the increase in the housing scheme. This newspaper was told that a man and woman were attacked at a place located at the back of the scheme called the “Blacka”. The man managed to escape while a gun was placed to the head of the woman.
