Blue Caps starts first community project

Youth-focused NGO Blue Caps started its first Youths Experiencing Service (YES) community service project on Saturday in the Rasville area. Thirty young leaders from several youth organisations joined with 10 youth from the Rasville community to conduct community surveys in the Rasville, Roxanne Burnham Gardens and East Ruimveldt communities, a press release said. Going from door-to-door, the volunteers were able to complete about 200 questionnaires.

Programme participants will now design scalable community projects to address some of the issues and problems identified in the survey. The programme will close with an awards ceremony on June 30 at Duke Lodge, Kingston.

The YES is a component of the month-long Building Communities through Leadership Training and Service programme which includes classroom training and executing community service projects after consultations with residents of selected communities. The programme’s main objective is to encourage young people to give back to their communities and society through volunteering while instilling the virtues of leadership.
