Mom abducts girl, 5, from school

More than one week after a five-year-old girl was kidnapped by her mother from the Cropper Primary School on the Corentyne while in protective custody, her whereabouts are still unknown.

The Child Care & Protection Agency (CCPA) had taken custody of the girl over two months ago after it was reported that she was allegedly sexually assaulted by her father. Reports are that the mother had denied the allegations and demanded to have the girl back from the home.

The officers had made it clear though that in order to do so she has to stop living with the father, but she continued. On September 5, the woman showed up at the school and took the child away.

It could not be ascertained whether the school had been briefed as the child’s situation.

Carmen Kissoon, president of the Camal International Home for Homeless & Battered Women told this newspaper that as it was happening, she received a call from the older children from the home who attend the school.

But by the time any action could be taken, the woman had already disappeared with the child. Checks were made to her Fyrish home but it was found to be abandoned.

Reports are that the man was initially taken into custody, but was released. Persons are concerned that although the girl has a 10-year-old sister and a two-year-old brother, they were not taken into custody during the investigations.

It could not be ascertained whether the police were involved in investigating the abduction of the child.
