Caribbean, French Guiana chambers sign trade pact

The Caribbean Association of Industry and Commerce (CAIC) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of French Guiana (CCI GUYANE) on Thursday last signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on trade and economic cooperation.

Signed at the Private Sector Commis-sion (PSC), the MOU aims to promote, facilitate and expand effective cooperation in the field of trade and investment promotion, international relations, the exchange of market information and technology transfer among other areas.

Ramesh Dookhoo, President of the CAIC, stated that “we are extending Caribbean trade beyond the borders of the CSME [Caricom Single Market and Economy].”

French Ambassador to Guyana Michel Prom in his remarks said that the French are proud to be a part of this agreement and that both parties have the same objectives and that is to expand trade in the region as well as to boost economic growth and stability.

Also present at the signing were CAIC Vice President Anilkumar Padarath of the Suriname Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vice-President of CCI GUYANE Alex Madeleine, Patricia Calut who is the Head of the International Department of Ubifrance and Cofac, Manager of Nord Quest Transports Victor Bantifo, along with PSC Chairman Ramesh Persaud and head of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association Clinton Williams.
