Pouderoyen pensioner found dead in home

A pensioner was found bound and gagged in his Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara house yesterday morning.

The partially decomposed body of Claude Class, 79, was discovered with his hands tied behind his back and a cloth stuffed in his mouth around 6.30 am yesterday by two men who were building his bridge.

According to a neighbour, Class had contracted the two men to build his front bridge but when the men went to his house on Sunday to start work and called out for him, they received no response.

The neighbour stated that the last time Class was seen alive was on Thursday when he went to collect his pension. The neighbour added that yesterday the two construction workers returned and said they were smelling “something dead” in the house. He said when they went up the front steps they saw the door slightly open.

He stated that when they entered the house they found Class tied up and his house ransacked. The police were immediately alerted and arrived at the scene shortly after.

Class has been living alone since his wife passed away ten years ago.

Police are currently investigating the matter.
