Hennie Crandon, 79, of Lot 12 Middle Street, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, is currently nursing serious injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Crandon’s right leg was broken, her right shoulder was dislocated and she also sustained a huge gash to her left arm.

Speaking to Stabroek News from her hospital bed, Crandon recounted that she was about to take a bath at midday on Tuesday when the incident occurred. “I was in the bathroom and all I heard a ‘woo-woo’ sound and it pin me down,” a shaken Crandon recounted.

She said she called out to her neighbours immediately, telling them to come quickly as she feared that she was going to die in her bathroom.

Crandon said the fallen tree left her pinned under zinc sheets for a while until a neighbour went with a chainsaw and gradually worked his way on the tree until she was freed. “I was rushed to the hospital right away after that,” she added.

She further stated that her neighbour, who is the owner of the plum tree, told her that it fell because of a wood ants infestation but she maintained that there were high winds just prior to the tree falling.

Crandon was dismayed that her neighbour had not visited her in the hospital since the incident.
