Sinclair guides West Berbice to first innings points

A patient unbeaten innings of 48 from 110 deliveries from Kevin Sinclair guided West Berbice to an eight-run first innings lead over New Amsterdam/Canje in the Berbice Cricket Board/National Communication Network under-15 inter zone two-day tournament which commenced yesterday at the Cumberland ground.

Sinclair’s knock guided his team to first innings points after the New Amsterdam/Canje team lost the toss and was asked to take the field. Batting first, West Berbice managed to recover from losing three wickets for only s even runs after opening medium pace bowler Junior Williams picked up two early wickets.

Middle order batsmen Javed Karim (39) and Seon Glasgow (37 not out)  revived their team’s innings, which eventually ended at 89-4 at the end of their allotted 38 overs.  Bowling for New Amsterdam/Canje, Williams ended with figures of 2-13 from six overs while Dominique Durant and Gayield Benjamin took a wicket each. In reply New Amsterdam/Canje, were 97-8 at the end  of their 38 overs  with Sinclair being the only batsman to reach double figures.

Nicholas Shevrattan and leg spinning all-rounder Sachin Veersammy took three wickets each for West Berbice, who were 75-3 from 20 overs when the day ended. When play resumes today Kris Ramnarine and Javed Karim will be looking to carry on from their respective overnight scores of 20 and 15. Sinclair ended a good day with bat and ball after he removed two of West Berbice’s second innings wicket to fall so far.
