Millington spurs West Ruimveldt to 10-1 whipping of Leopold Street/Lacytown

West Ruimveldt led by a Devon Millington five goal haul and a Colin Nelson second half hat trick, crushed Leopold Street/Lacytown 10-1 when the first annual Grassroots Foundation inter-ward knockout football tournament commenced on Monday.

Hosted at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Millington opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a simple right footed finish to the lower left hand corner from within the centre of the box, following a defence splitting through pass from central midfield.

He would double his tally four minutes later, thumping his right footed attempt from inside the right side of the area into the left hand corner. The hat trick would be sealed in the 35th minute through an easy finish to the lower right hand corner after collecting a right side pass.

Millington would complete his helmet trick three minutes before the half time interval, lashing his right footed shot into the lower right hand corner after collecting a cheeky back pass within the centre of the area from Clive Nobrega.

The lopsided matchup would continue in the second period as Colin Nelson netted in the 62nd minute with a left footed shot from inside the centre of the 18 yard area, to the left hand side of the net.

Millington would complete his personal haul for the evening in the 65th minute, placing his right footed attempt from 22 yards out in the centre of the field into the lower left hand corner of the woodwork.

Nelson would pick up the goal scoring burden for the West Ruimveldt side as he netted his double in the 70th with a strike to the right side of the goal from within the area.

With the result a distant formality, further goals by Deron Benjamin, Joshua Britton and Nelson in the 76th, 80th and 84th minutes respectively completed the win. Scoring a consolation goal in the 66th minute was Marco Lawrence.

In the opening fixture of the tournament, Laing Avenue came from behind to defeat Agricola by a 3-1 score line.
