Pacesetters, Colts reach second division final

Trinity Grid Holdings (TGH) Pacesetters and Colts will faceoff for the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Trifecta second division title, following wins over Buxton Heat and Republic Bank Nets respectively on Sunday.

Played at the outdoor Burnham Basketball Court, Colts defeated Republic Bank Nets 66-57. Nikkoloi Smith led the offence for the winners, shooting his way to 22 points while guard Michael Richards netted a game-high 23 points in the loss.

In the second semi-final, TGH Pacesetters crushed Buxton Heat 64-43 after the East Coast side qualified for the final four stage by being the highest scoring loser among the other teams.

Colts and TGH Pacesetters will now faceoff on Friday at the same venue for the title at 19:30hrs. In the earlier quarterfinal round at the same venue on Saturday, TGH Pacesetters squeaked past Dynas Ravens 69-63.

Michael Turner was the principal scorer for the winners as he netted 17 points. Netting a game-high 20 points in the loss was Marlon Rodrigues. Colts, in their earlier quarterfinal matchup defeated Buxton Heat 85-67.

On the opening night on Friday at the same venue, Buxton Heat defeated Pepsi Sonics 87-59. Quincy Wright top scored for Buxton with 30 points while Kevin Dey assisted with 17 points. Leading the scoring for the losers with 19 points was Samuel Thompson.

In the second matchup, Republic Bank Nets edged Melanie Patriots 67-65 in overtime. Mortimer Williams netted 17 points for the winners while S. Legall registered 18 points for the losers. In the third matchup, TGH Pacesetters earned a walkover victory against Eagles.

The 1st division section of the tournament is also expected to commence on Friday. The eight competing teams led by number one ranked seed (1) TGH Pacesetters are (2) Colts, (3) Pepsi Sonics, (4) Republic Nets, (5) Panthers, (6) Melanie Patriots, (7) Buxton and (8) Knights.

Not participating are Plaisance Guardians and Dynas Ravens. The opening match will see Pepsi Sonics facing off with Melanie Patriots from 18:00hrs. At the same venue on Saturday, Panthers will battle Republic Bank Nets in the opening game of the tripleheader at 18:00hrs.

In the second matchup at 19:30hrs, Colts will oppose Buxton while the final matchup at 21:00hrs will witness TGH Pacesetters facing off with Knights. The semi-final round of the event will commence on August 17th.
