GROS ISLET, St Lucia, CMC – West Indies stroke-maker Darren Bravo has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for “verbally offending” Bangladeshi batsmen, during the fourth day’s play of the second Test which ended here Tuesday.
In a release yesterday, the International Cricket Council said Bravo had been repeatedly warned by umpires not to “verbally offend the opposition batsmen” but had ignored these warnings.
On-field umpires Stephen Davis and Richard Illingworth, third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth umpire Peter Nero, charged Bravo with a Level One breach of conduct contrary to the spirit of the game and bringing the game into disrepute.
The player challenged the charge but was found guilty in a subsequent hearing conducted by match referee Roshan Mahanama.
“The umpires felt that the player’s behaviour brought the game into disrepute and he was reminded of his responsibilities to extend respect at all times to both his opponent and to match officials,” Mahanama said.
West Indies won the second Test at the Beausejour Cricket by 296 runs to complete a clean sweep of the two-match series.
They also won the preceding one-day series 3-0.
