Overseas-based players to compete for spots on NACRA Sevens team

United States of America-based Vallon Adams and Australia-based Kevin McKenzie are among 10 overseas players that will compete for places in the National Sevens team billed to participate in the North American and Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) championships in Mexico in December.

According to a release from the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), each overseas based player is expected to achieve a minimum Beep Test level of 12 and must attend a compulsory two-week training camp here from November 9.

Ronald Mayers, Peabo Hamilton, Rupert Giles, Dominic Lespierre, Albert La Rose, Isaiah Allen, Richard Staglon and Claudius Butts are the other overseas-based players shortlisted on the training squad.

The national team will be participating in the NACRA Sevens Championship in Mexico City, Mexico from December 3-4 on a quest to capture their seventh title.

The outfit departs Guyana on November 27 and from Mexico on December 5.

Meanwhile, the GRFU will kick off its highly anticipated Sevens league on Saturday, to get the competitive juices of the local ruggers flowing. The league will be launched today at the Windjammer Hotel.
