Edghill upsets Britton to win Digicel Schools’ 18 years and under title

Southpaw Kyle Edghill has lived in the shadow of his big sister Chelsea Edghill for most of his table tennis playing career.

No Longer!

Edghill on Sunday recorded one of his biggest victories locally when he defeated top seed and 2014 Commonwealth Games representative Shemar Britton in straight games en route to winning the title after a three-

way tie with another star player Elishaba Johnson as the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) mini cadet, cadet and junior teams and Singles tournament ended on Sunday with singles play at the cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

It was not Edghill’s biggest victory that was his defeat of Trinidad’s Reeza Burke in five games in March this year in the Twin Island Republic’s Silver Bowl tournament.

But it certainly ranks up there since Britton had a stint in China this year and is considered among the top four male players locally.

Co-ordinator Linden Johnson decided to play the 18 years and under Open competition a round robin affair and Mae’s Edghill defeated Queen’s College’s Britton but lost to St Stanislaus College’s Johnson who then lost to Britton.
