Third Class defeats Ace Warriors

Third Class defeated Ace Warriors by five wickets as weekend action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society Second Division 40 overs Tournament resumed on Saturday after rain prevented play on the previous two weekends.

Played at the Muslim Youth Organisation ground, Third Class prevailed in the low scoring encounter on the back of quality bowling by Trevor Hossein and Alvin Castello. The pair combined for six wickets as Ace Warriors were restricted to 110 in 24.1 overs. Hossein was very economical with figures of 3-10 from five overs as he sent down three maidens while Castello claimed 3-18 from 6.1 overs.

20141208alvinCastello then returned to top score with 31 as Third Class raced to 111-5 in 15.1 overs. He received support from Shawn Garnett who was unbeaten on 27 when his team reached their victory target.

Down the street at the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground, Transport Sports Club (TSC) defeated the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) by 28 runs as cricket returned to the venue for the first time in two months.

TSC batted first and were bowled out for 187 in 31.3 overs, with Oslen Batson (47) and Clyde Hoyte (43) being the principal scorers. Paul Oneil captured six wickets for GDF. In reply GDF managed just 159 all out in 30.3 overs as Hoyte returned with the ball to take four wickets while Shawn Massiah snared three.
