Body found floating near Watooka

The unidentified, decomposed body of a man was fished out of the Demerara River in the vicinity of Watooka on Thursday night by police.

According to ‘E’ Division Commander Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus, the body was seen floating by residents in the Watooka area at 8 pm on Thursday. He said an hour later, the man, who appeared to be of African descent, and whose body was clad in a checkered boxer shorts, was fished out of the river.

The Commander told Stabroek News that the body was taken to the Wismar Hospital mortuary, awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
