East Ruimveldt woman charged over row with cop

An East Ruimveldt woman was yesterday released on $10,000 bail after she was charged with attempting to prevent a police officer from executing his duties while verbally abusing him.

However, Donnette Boston, 23, denied the charges when she appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that on June 23, 2014 at the Stabroek Market Square, Boston attempted to prevent Police Constable 21330 Kevin George from executing his duties while also using abusive language to the said officer.

The unrepresented woman told the court that a whole bus load of people should have been arrested and questioned on the reason for her being singled out. “I was in a bus and the driver blow pon another bus and George come and tell the driver that if he blow one more time, he gon charge he,” she explained.

The woman said she questioned the reasoning of the officer, while the other passengers in the bus also expressed disgust over his statement.

The defendant further stated that the policeman told her to disembark the bus and after she refused to comply, she was pulled from the vehicle at which point the other passengers held on to her and rebuked the rank for singling her out.

The woman further said that the rank was determined to charge her and after she went to the police outpost a statement was taken from her.

The magistrate set bail at $5000 on each charge and the matter was adjourned to February 2, and transferred to Court 1.
