La Grange man remanded on wounding charge

La Grange, West Bank Demerara resident Randolph Sanasie was yesterday remanded to prison on a wounding charge after a court heard that his alleged victim was still hospitalised.

The police allege that Sanasie, on March 1, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Ron Jones to cause him grievous bodily harm.

But Sanasie denied the charge which was read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

No other facts in relation to the charge were mentioned in court.

Prosecutor Bharat Mangru objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and the fact that Jones is still a hospitalised patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

In addition, the prosecutor noted that Sanasie might not return for trial if granted bail.

As a result, bail was refused and the matter adjourned to March 11.
