Suspect in murder of Moraikobai teen charged after over a year on the run

Latchman Partap, the man who allegedly shot and killed his former teenage girlfriend at Moraikobai, Mahaicony, has been held after over a year on the run and charged with the murder.

Partap appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where he was not required to plead to the charge that he murdered Theiana Andrews in December, 2013.

Prosecutor John Singh told Magistrate Zamilla Ally that Partap was caught several days ago.

The man was remanded to prison and will appear at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court on June 1st.

Andrews, 17, was allegedly shot with a 12-gauge shotgun by Partap, who then fled.

The shot, according to the girl’s father, Mark Andrews, damaged Theiana’s left arm as well as her abdomen. Andrews and the man had been in a relationship for a short period of time.
