Sacred Heart Church needs $30M for completion

The historic Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Main Street requires another $30M to complete its restoration.

The original wooden structure was demolished by fire on December 25th, 2004. A report in the May 22, 2015

edition of the Catholic Standard said that over the 10 years since the conflagration the rebuilding effort has mobilized $100M.

It added that the project is now 80% complete but requires $30M more.

It said that work is now almost at a standstill due to the lack of funds. It stated that the Sacred Heart Parish Community is therefore seeking assistance to conclude the project.

The remaining work comprises the completion of the floor, the washroom facilities, the caretaker’s quarters, landscaping, pews and other minor works. It added that the caretaker’s residence was vital as the current cost of security is substantial.
