Dear Editor,
I have read recent articles by both PM Hinds and Minister of Natural Resources & the Environment Robert Persaud reporting that all is well in the timber industry. Both of these gentlemen reported that more value-added activities are being encouraged along with the other usual rhetoric. The report on Guyana’s declared timber exports during 2014 as compared to 2013 was recently released by the GFC through the Forests Products Development & Marketing Council (FPDMC). A synopsis of certain key figures is presented below. Readers can judge for themselves what the real story is. My opinion is that this represents a national tragedy.
