Undermining democracy

Dear Editor,

The protest on July 14 by the group called the Coalition for the 1823 Monument is a clear violation of the democratic rights of Guyanese.

This small group of people, seven in number, are seeking to undermine our hard-won democracy by making choices on behalf of the 203,000 plus persons who voted for the PPP/C in the recent general elections.

What’s next? Do Rudy Guyan and Freddie Kissoon tell us which church to attend? What movies to watch? What brand of underwear we should wear? I suggest Mr Kissoon and his associates stick to saving the hyperbole for his daily fiction articles. Should he want the privilege of naming the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament he is free to face the electorate in 2020 as a leader of List of his chosen political party.

The charges of racism against former president Jagdeo are not worth the cheap cardboard they are written on, the people are not and will not be fooled by a group of professional protestors.

Yours faithfully,
Robin Singh
