Due protocol was not followed at E La Penitence community meeting

Dear Editor,

On Sunday July 19, a few residents of East La Penitence were invited to a community meeting at East La Penitence primary school. Seated at the table were Ministers Bulkan, Broomes, Ferguson and a person identified as Lurlene Nestor.

While this venture may have been a good initiative, we were very concerned, surprised and somewhat angry that Mr Eon Andrews, a Councillor who resides in this community, was only informed about the meeting minutes before it was scheduled to begin.

During the course of the meeting there was a clear indication that there was a desire by ‘whomever’ to foist persons upon us whom we may not know, persons who may be living in our community but we do not consider ‘one of us.’

We feel that due protocol was not followed and it was disrespectful that such a meeting was called and Mr Andrews who was instrumental in co-ordinating a massive cleanup on Mandela Avenue by residents as well as the cleanup by Bourda Street vendors was not apprised of it earlier. It is difficult to understand that during the era of the previous administration when the going was tough, he was with us, and now that his government is in power the stalwart was not even considered important enough, as he was a last minute invitee or a ‘cover the shame’ invitee.

Because Eon Andrews is ‘one of us’, the people of East La Penitence will never abandon their own.

Yours faithfully,

Alicia James
