West Front Road, Bent Street through to knock out stage

West Front Road and Bent Street were the latest sides to clinch their berth to knockout round in the inaugural Guyana Beverage Company Busta Football championship, defeating Cross Street and Holmes Street Tiger Bay respectively on Saturday

Hosted at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, West Front Road overcame Cross Street by a 4-3 score line compliments of doubles from relatives Michael Oie in the fifth and 23rd minutes and Randolph Wagner in the 20th and 27th minutes.

Scoring for the losing side were Sheldon Profit, Dellon David and Samuel Hunte in the 10th, 27th and 30th minutes correspondingly. Meanwhile, Bent Street dismissed Holmes Street Tiger Bay by a 3-1 margin. Anthony Abrams netted a hat-trick in the third, sixth and 14th minutes for the winner while Ron Adams scored for the losing side in the 22nd minute. Similarly registering wins were Albouystown and Globe Yard who downed North East La Penitence and Back Circle respectively.

A hat-trick in the 11th, 18th and 24th minutes by Roy Cassou and an own goal in the 29th minute ensured Albouystown defeated North East La Penitence 4-1. Scoring in the loss was Calvin Moore in the 21st minute.

On the other-hand, Globe Yard downed Back Circle by an identical score. Ryan Morrison netted a double in the ninth and 29th minutes while Leon Roberts and Kevin Lewis netted solo efforts in the 13th and 22nd minute respectively.

On target in the loss in the 27th minute was Dexter Griffith. In other results, Broad Street defeated Durban Street 2-0 compliments of a double from Jamal Cozier in the 11th and 14th minutes while Tucville and Festival City battled to a 0-0 draw. Victors of the tourney will receive the championship trophy and $600,000. Meanwhile the second, third and fourth placed sides will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the respective accolade.

Following the end of the initial group stage, the winner of the group will receive $25,000 while the second, third and fourth finishers within the group will receive $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 respectively. The action in the tourney is slated to continue at the same venue tomorrow.
