GCC ladies win hockey opener in T/dad

Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ladies got their history making inaugural season in the Trinidad and Tobago Outdoor Women’s League off to the perfect start, edging Ventures Hockey Club by a 1-0 score line on Friday in the twin-island republic.

Sonia Jardine sealed the victory for the Guyanese unit with a 23rd minute conversion, sweeping her first time effort into the back of the net after collecting a cross from Ashley DeGroot within the shooting arc.

GCC will now conclude the first part of their tour to the island today with matches against Notre Dame and Checkers Hockey Clubs. Upon the conclusion of their matches, GCC will return to local shores tomorrow.

The Guyanese outfit became eligible to compete in the event after receiving approval from the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Federation after applying in 2014. Upon the approval, GCC became the first foreign club to participate in the championships.
