Former West Indies, Guyana and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) player Carl Hooper was yesterday honoured for his contribution to the club as well as to the overall development to Guyana’s cricket.

given a plaque and a gold pendant of the club’s emblem during a simple ceremony at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, prior to last night’s showdown with the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in the final preliminary game of the current Hero Caribbean Premier League competition.
According to a press release, Hooper, the former West Indies all-rounder who played 102 test matches, expressed his gratitude for the recognition and renewed his interest in making financial and other contributions to the club.
He said that he has connections that could allow for the provision of gear and related items for use by the club.
GCC executive member, Les Ramalho, said that there were ongoing efforts to make improvements to the facilities adding that there have been some challenges. “As you know the club is going through a lot of hardship, ever since test cricket was removed from there; we do not have the same amount of members as we had before, as such contributions are not as forthcoming,” Ramalho said during a brief exchange with Hooper.
Hooper has committed to making an undisclosed initial financial contribution to the club after the ongoing CPL matches in Guyana. There was also a commitment for follow-up provision of gear and other items.
