Festival City outclass Mocha Ballers 2-0

Festival City, Agricola and Queen Street Tigerbay were amongst the victors on day three when the inaugural RDE Vibes and Sparta Boss ‘King of the Streets’ Football Tourney continued on Wednesday at the Sparta Tarmac in East La Penitence.

On a night littered with penalty shoot-out wins, Festival City downed Mocha Ballers by a 2-0 score line in the fifth encounter.

Eon Alleyne opened the scoring in the fourth minute, slotting home from the left side down the centre of the goal, after collecting a right-sided pass from Dwayne Lawrence following a one-two pass combination with the latter.

He would then seal the encounter in the 17th minute, blasting a powerful strike into the middle of the net from the left side of the field. Similarly, Agricola defeated Albouystown by a 1-0 margin.

Bilaal Jabar found the back of the net for the East Bank of Demerara unit in the 16th minute, blasting his right-footed shot into the empty net after an initial attempt by the final defender from the halfway line, took a deflection and fell into his path.

In the fourth fixture, Queen Street Tigerbay downed arch-rivals Leopold Street 2-1 on sudden death kicks after normal time finished scoreless. Tasked with taking the spot-kick, Jason Fredericks of Queen Street did not disappoint as he fired his right-footed effort into the goal.

Omallo Williams quickly responded for Leopold Street as he netted their first attempt with a left-footed strike. With the pressure shifted back on Queen Street, Darren Harris silenced the large crowd as he placed his effort into the lower left corner.

Needing to convert to keep his side’s hopes alive, Okeene Fraser would fire his effort wide of the right uptight, sealing the hard-fought contest.

In other results, Globe Yard defeated Showstoppers-B 1-0 on sudden death kicks after normal time failed to separate the two sides with the score locked at nil-all. In the sixth encounter, Jetty Gunners defeated Broad Street 1-0 on sudden death kicks after the score ended 0-0.

Also securing a win was Samaroo Dam who defeated Alberttown 1-0 on sudden kicks. In the third encounter, North East La Penitence defeated Showstoppers 2-1 via sudden death kicks following a scoreless normal time interval.

Action in the tourney is slated to continue at the same venue today. Winner of the tournament will walk away with $400,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place sides will receive $150,000, $80,000 and $20,000 correspondingly.
